how the malays and europeans was treated during japanese occupation

The Japanese soldiers arrested some Malays from the streets and sent them to Thailand to build the Death Railway. The Death Railway was in Thailand. The Malays and Europeans used simple tools to fell trees and cut rocks. They were made to work long hours and were given insufficient food. And, they were severely punished if they did anything wrong. As a result, many them died there. This was also how the railway became known as The Death Railway
